Discover Maryam's Halal 'taste Of New York'

Nestled in the heart of Columbus, Ohio, Maryam's Halal taste Of New York brings an authentic slice of New York City’s street food flair to the Midwest. Located at 1600 Oakland Park Ave, Columbus, OH 43224, United States, this casual diner captures the lively spirit of the Big Apple with a warm neighborhood vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. The aroma of sizzling gyro meat and seasoned rice greets you before you even walk through the door, setting the tone for a culinary experience that’s as comforting as it is exciting.

What stands out about Maryam’s is its commitment to authentic halal preparation. Having grown up in New York myself, where halal carts line almost every block, I can confidently say that Maryam’s brings that same energy - and flavor - to Ohio. The kitchen staff, led by experienced chefs with roots in Queens and Brooklyn, follows traditional methods of marinating meats overnight for maximum tenderness and taste. The chicken over rice, one of the restaurant’s signature dishes, bursts with rich spices and is paired perfectly with their creamy white sauce and spicy red drizzle. It’s the kind of dish that leaves you craving another visit.

The menu offers an impressive variety that goes beyond the usual street platters. From lamb gyros wrapped in warm pita to crispy falafel served with fresh hummus, every dish feels thoughtfully prepared. I particularly enjoyed the lamb shawarma, which was packed with flavor and wrapped so generously that one serving could easily feed two. For those seeking something lighter, the grilled chicken salad topped with Maryam’s tangy house dressing provides a fresh and flavorful balance. What’s even better is the consistency - no matter what time of day you visit, the portions are generous and the taste remains spot-on.

Reviews from locals and visitors alike echo this sentiment. Many praise the quick service, affordable prices, and genuine hospitality that make each meal memorable. According to recent diner feedback on Google Maps and Yelp, Maryam’s has become a go-to spot not just for the Muslim community seeking halal-certified meals, but for anyone craving well-seasoned, satisfying food. The atmosphere is simple yet welcoming - a reflection of the restaurant’s focus on quality rather than pretension.

From a broader culinary perspective, halal dining in the U.S. has seen steady growth, with Statista reporting an increasing demand for halal-certified restaurants across major cities. Maryam’s taps into that trend with authenticity and transparency. Their ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible, and the team ensures every dish meets halal standards verified by trusted suppliers. This attention to detail builds trust, a vital element in the food industry, especially for diners who prioritize religious and ethical considerations.

During my visit, I spoke briefly with one of the cooks, who mentioned that many recipes are family traditions passed down through generations. This blend of heritage and modern street-style presentation gives the food its distinctive personality. You can tell that each meal is made with care - from the way the rice is seasoned to the precise layering of sauces that elevate each bite.

Another noteworthy aspect is the convenience of their location. Situated in a busy part of Columbus, Maryam’s attracts a diverse crowd - from office workers grabbing lunch to families enjoying weekend dinners. Parking is easy, and the staff makes takeout and delivery seamless, especially for those who want to enjoy their New York-inspired halal favorites from home. Regulars often highlight the restaurant’s consistency and the genuine friendliness of its owners, who take time to greet customers personally.

Ultimately, Maryam’s represents more than just a place to eat; it’s a community hub where flavor, culture, and hospitality intersect. Its loyal customer base and growing online buzz prove that great food doesn’t need flashy décor to stand out - just authenticity and heart. If you ever find yourself near 1600 Oakland Park Ave, Columbus, OH 43224, this spot deserves a stop on your list. Whether it’s for a quick lunch, a family dinner, or a late-night craving, you’ll find yourself coming back for that unforgettable taste of New York right here in Columbus.

Reviews

  • This place is one of the legit best takeout meals I've ever had. I rarely review places on here, but had to share. The food was absolutely fresh and amazing and the portions were beyond generous.

  • We had tandori chicken over rice and wings over rice. Both were yummy. Quantity wise both were more than enough. Parking was a bit confusing. But it is available there.

  • Good portion for good price. We got chicken and lamb on the rice!

  • The food was absolutely delicious! The chicken was very well marinated and the rice was truly flavorful. I had asked for no green peppers, but they were included—probably by mistake. Still, the food, the price, and the portion size were perfect. This place will definitely become my favorite restaurant! Highly recommended. Keep up the great work!

  • Edit: So good I went back again the next day. Owner was friendly, food was good, and they were changing the fry oil when I got there (places like Wendy's and McDonald's sometimes don't do this enough and you can tell if the fries leave a bitter taste in your throat after you take a drink). I don't give five stars for food unless it's really amazing - there was nothing bad about what I ate today - it was fresh and tasty, and it was a good value. Also they were happy to let me choose "half fries and half salad", this is why I'm giving them five stars overall (which I don't normally give out unless there's something special about a place. If a restaurant is just "good", that's not worthy of a five star rating. I had "Chicken over Fries/ Salad". I'm thinking next time I'll order Kebab instead because the "chicken" is just decent and not super flavorful or exciting. Perhaps I would prefer chicken tenders, or the lamb. There is a small counter you could sit at, but no tables. I'll get "take out" again next time I go back. I'm glad the POS didn't ask for a tip when I paid as I don't think it's appropriate to ASK customers for tips (tips should be offered by the customers, not asked for - particularly if the order is take out). Edit: in Australia they have a similar dish that's very popular which they call: "Halal Snack Box". Also, the "hot sauce" here is not hot, like, not at all. Next time, I'll ask if they have something hotter Edit #2: The hot sauce IS actually very hot, they just don't put much on unless you ask for it. It's hot, but really tasty hot sauce. Similar to Rooster's "Nukiller" sauce, but not quite as spicy as that - they do also have an extra hot sauce, which I haven't tried yet.

  • We got the family (5) meal from the catering menu and ate on it for 3 days and all the food was delicious! There was a lot more meat than we expected and it was all fresh. Chicken+Lamb Tika, Chicken+Lamb kabob, fried fish, falafel, pita, rice, two sauces. I went back today for a snack and tried their mini samosas and they were really good too.

  • Tried the chicken and lamb over fries platter. It was definitely one of the best fries platters in Columbus. A must try dish.
